Spencer Dinwiddie said nothing was misrepresented or mischaracterized regarding his departure from the Nets.
That was it.
“Everything. Everything,” Dinwiddie repeated for emphasis. “Everything. Everything.”
The prodigal son returned to Brooklyn on Easter Sunday, and Dinwiddie went scoreless for 21 minutes in his first game against the Nets since being shipped to Toronto at the trade deadline.
He was quickly acquired and signed by his hometown Lakers, helping them win 116-104 at Barclays Center.
Dinwiddie’s departure was not a pretty one, with many questioning his efforts.
In the spirit of the holidays, the guard was hesitant at first when asked about playing against his former team, which he always enjoyed throughout his career.
“Today is Easter Sunday, so my mom told me to get out of my seat. No comment at all at this time,” Dinwiddie smiled before beginning his comment.
When asked specifically to clear up any misconceptions about his final days in Brooklyn, he said he understands how the business works, that his voice became hard to hear while leaving the Nets, but that he’s happy now as a Laker. I just answered that it was.
“know [the media] There’s clearly work to be done. And I also know that people say things they say in other places, like in organizations or other positions. So obviously as a player, sometimes things get mischaracterized and sometimes your voice gets drowned out,” Dinwiddie said. “That’s kind of the situation I ended up in.
“It was fun guarding people in the primary while I was here, and it’s fun guarding people in the primary now. I understand that my 2024 was primarily about playing defense. But it’s been celebrated and appreciated on this team.”

After being traded to Toronto, Dinwiddie was waived on February 8 and signed with the Lakers four days later.
And while he comes off the bench and is called for catch-and-shoot and is still away from the ball, at least now he’s spacing the floor for LeBron James and Anthony Davis to go for the rim.
“The two guys to watch here are obviously LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so it’s a completely different type of situation,” Dinwiddie said. “And they were already a good team before I got here. But playing basketball with a purpose is a great experience to be a part of. I don’t want to be.”
Cam Thomas had 30 points and six assists, both team highs.
He joins James Harden (2021-22), Stephon Marbury (2000-01) and John Williamson (1977-78) as the only Nets to score 30 points in two games in a season against the Lakers. Ta.
Cam Johnson and Dennis Smith Jr. both returned from injuries. Johnson had five points in 19:54 and Smith had two points in 3:38.
Trendon Watford (15 points, 8 boards) scored in double digits for a season-high four straight games.
