Lamar Jackson Addresses Incident with Fan
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has issued an apology following an incident where he pushed a fan who slapped his helmet after a touchdown during a close game against the Buffalo Bills, which ended in a 41-40 loss.
After the game, the fans involved were banned from NFL stadiums indefinitely for this behavior, which also included hitting wide receiver Deandre Hopkins as he celebrated his recent touchdown. While Hopkins chose not to respond, Jackson decided to push back against the fan but later expressed regret over his actions.
“Next time, it’s just cold,” Jackson said during Ravens practice on Wednesday, addressing the fans directly. He added, “You can talk about trash and things, but don’t put your hands on others.”
Jackson explained it all felt sudden. “I was pushed. What, what? I didn’t even think about myself on the field. I apologized to him,” he reflected. The Bills made a significant comeback in the fourth quarter, but the fans had already been ejected from the stadium. It was later confirmed that these fans faced bans across all NFL venues.
Jackson mentioned he had discussions with Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta and head coach John Harbaugh about the situation, but noted he hadn’t heard anything regarding potential consequences from the NFL for his actions. Harbaugh conveyed, “As far as I know, we’re in a really good place with that,” regarding Jackson’s behavior.
This wasn’t the only fan-related incident during the Bills’ home opener; another occurred when a fan threw a frozen water bottle towards running back Derrick Henry after he scored a 46-yard touchdown.
While the Ravens seemed poised for a strong start to the 2025 NFL season, they ultimately fell short as the Bills secured their victory with a last-minute field goal.
In the game, Jackson completed 19 passes for 209 yards and threw two touchdowns, along with rushing for 70 yards and one touchdown on six attempts. Meanwhile, Henry led the NFL for the night with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
