LaMelo Ball of the Hornets abruptly leaves press conference following questions about a car accident

LaMelo Ball Faces Yet Another Challenge

LaMelo Ball seems to be having a rough time lately.

Following the Hornets’ 105-101 defeat against the Rockets, a reporter brought up a recent car accident in Charlotte. After just a couple of questions, Ball abruptly left the room without further comment.

One of the questions posed was, “How did you know the other driver was okay?”

Ball responded flatly, “I saw her walk straight out of the car.”

Another reporter inquired about how Ball was holding up mentally over the last day. His reply was straightforward.

“I’m just blessed to be alive. God is great,” he stated.

After that, Ball seemed to lose interest, casting his gaze down at the podium. When new questions started coming in, he decided it was time to leave.

This incident occurred just a day after Ball got into an accident with his custom camo Hummer in downtown Charlotte.

Footage from the scene showed Ball attempting to make a left turn while a gray sedan was going straight through the intersection.

The damage was significant: Ball’s car had its front wheel drive side wheels completely torn off, and the sedan’s front was badly crumpled. After the crash, he was seen departing in a Lamborghini.

Until Ball spoke on Thursday, the condition of the other driver was uncertain.

Since 2022, Ball has been driving around in the Hummer, which he customized with a desert camouflage wrap and orange details on the inside of the tires.

Fortunately, Ball appeared to be fine and played about 31 minutes in the game against Houston.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first controversy for Ball, a No. 3 draft pick in 2020. Back in October, he faced a $35,000 fine for inappropriate behavior towards a referee during a game against the Heat, and in 2024, he was hit with a much heftier $100,000 fine for making derogatory comments.

Currently in his sixth season with the Hornets, Ball’s performance shows he’s averaging 19.1 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game—marking the lowest rebound average of his career and the fewest points since his rookie year.

It would certainly help him and the team to steer clear of distractions, especially as the Hornets cling to the last playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

They’re currently just 1.5 games behind Milwaukee and trailing by two games behind Chicago.

Ball’s recent antics certainly add more pressure on Charlotte as they strive to maintain their playoff hopes.
