Lando Norris pleased to be ‘in the competition’ after securing F1 Sprint victory at the Miami Grand Prix

Miami, Fla.

About a year ago at Hard Rock Stadium, Land Norris celebrated his first Grand Prix win during the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

This time around, his return to Miami began quite positively.

Norris triumphed in the Formula 1 sprint race, crossing the finish line in a tumultuous and rainy race. Initially in third, behind pole sitter Kimi Antoneri and teammate Oscar Piastri, Norris quickly moved up to P2 after a lively battle with a young Mercedes driver, pushing Antoneri down to fourth.

As the race progressed and the track dried, Norris made the switch to slick tires. He had just completed his pit stop when the safety car was deployed, following an incident that involved Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson, which left Alonso’s Aston Martin against the wall.

The green flag came back out for the final stretch, giving Norris the chance to clinch the win.

Speaking with the media, including SB Nation, after the race, Norris remarked, “It all went to plan.”

“It was a good race,” he started. “I mean, everything went according to plan. Oscar and I both got off to a solid start, first and second, which was encouraging. The conditions got tricky as it dried out a few times, but I felt I had better pace.”

“I managed everything well, especially towards the end of the stint; I was quick on the intermediates,” he added.

Norris had an added advantage of an extra lap on his intermediates, allowing him to run cleanly and strongly during that stretch.

“The tires started to wear down quite a bit in the last laps. Most of the track was pretty dry, except for the Shane section,” he noted. “But I think I could have preserved my tires a bit better and maintained good pace. I was able to push effectively in clean air, turning in strong laps.”

While Norris expressed satisfaction with the MCL39, he acknowledged that the outcome served as a “boost,” emphasizing the importance of every point in F1.

“I know my pace and speed are there,” he stated. “But yes, it’s definitely a boost. Every little point counts.”

“I was third yesterday, and I felt pleased with my performance, despite a few small mistakes. Overall, it was a solid race, and it’s great to be competitive,” he continued.

“I’m happy with everything—my car, my performance—so I just need to keep pushing forward.”
