USMNT Wins Against Bosnia and Herzegovina
The U.S. men’s national team’s 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina had Landon Donovan feeling the pressure. As a former USMNT player and current FOX soccer analyst, he found himself quite tense during the final moments of the match.
“Those last 15 minutes were so nerve-wracking—honestly, I thought I might lose my hair,” Donovan quipped on the postgame show, which aired from outside Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
This comment brought a chuckle from his former teammate, Clint Dempsey. The match took a turn when Folarin Balogun received a red card in the second half, leaving only 10 players on the field for more than 30 minutes. Despite facing pressure from Bosnia as they aimed to keep their World Cup hopes alive, the Americans held strong.
As the game neared its end, Malik Tillman managed to score, securing the win for the U.S. Donovan commented on the team’s performance, saying they were clearly more talented and had better offensive control throughout the game. “The adversity we faced was tangible. The Türkiye match had its challenges, but this was real. We really had to dig deep,” he explained.
He also noted, “If one of us had gone down, we might have been able to score two goals. Pulisic had a goal that was ruled offside, but this game sets us up for our next match against Belgium.” He seemed optimistic, suggesting that there would be moments where the team could dominate possession, which should boost their confidence for future games.
The win allows the USMNT to advance to the Round of 16, where they will play Belgium on Monday night in Seattle. Donovan might want to prepare for another hair-raising experience as the tournament progresses.
