Landry Shamet's late-game efforts and a crucial call help Knicks secure a thrilling victory over the Mavericks

DALLAS — Late Whistle Secures Knicks’ Narrow Victory

The Knicks narrowly avoided what could have been a tough loss against the Mavericks, thanks to a last-minute foul call. Mavericks guard Brandon Williams seemed to score a game-tying shot just before the end, but the officials called him for hooking defender Landry Shamet. Consequently, the Knicks left the American Airlines Center with a tense 113-111 win on Wednesday.

In a surprising twist, Shamet emerged as the unlikely hero of the game.

Up against a Mavericks squad missing key players, the Knicks were challenged and needed a crucial basket. That’s where Shamet stepped up.

Despite initially joining the team on a non-guaranteed deal, the veteran guard has been a reliable starter. He made two three-pointers in the final minute, including the pivotal shot that put the Knicks ahead with only about 30 seconds remaining.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Shamet also managed to sink two crucial free throws with just 22 seconds left. However, Mitchell Robinson missed two of his own from the line, and even Jalen Brunson, returning from injury, could only make one of two free throws.

In the last moments, the Knicks really struggled from the free-throw line, making only one out of six attempts. This gave Dallas a glimmer of hope. After Brunson’s final free throw, the Mavericks executed an inbounds pass to Williams, who seemed to hook Shamet but managed to shoot. The bucket went in, but—dare I say—it didn’t count.

So, the Knicks (now at 9-5) find themselves clinging to a rather unimpressive winning streak. At least they managed to win away from home, improving their record on the road to 1-4.

Brunson led the team with 28 points upon returning from an ankle sprain but unfortunately sustained another injury during the closing moments of the match against the Magic.
