Lane Kiffin took a moment to poke fun at his daughter’s boyfriend during his victory celebration on Saturday.
The Ole Miss coach referenced LSU linebacker Whit Weeks after the Rebels secured a 24-19 win, improving their record to 5-0.
“We really believe in our players. It’s been great making plays on fourth down. Now we’re just trying to see if we can cover the overs with Whit,” Kiffin said with a grin in an interview with ESPN.
On Monday, his daughter, Landry, publicly acknowledged her relationship with Weeks on Instagram just days before the highly anticipated game between LSU and Ole Miss. Landry mentioned, “I love college football,” indicating her playful support. It was a smart move, considering the timing seemed aimed at getting inside the heads of fans and players alike.
Landry, who is part of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Ole Miss, has shown support by incorporating her boyfriend’s jersey number into her game-day outfits, even adding it to her polka dot mini dress.
Whit Weeks, a junior from Watkinsville, Georgia, had a standout game against Ole Miss, recording 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles and half a sack this season.
After the game, videos surfaced of the couple celebrating on the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, enjoying their victory together.
Kiffin also gave credit to quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who completed 23 of 39 passes for 314 yards, contributing one touchdown and one interception, while adding 71 rushing yards.
“We’ve got two really solid quarterbacks, which is a great position to be in. A lot of teams struggle when they lose their starting quarterback, but we’re managing well,” Kiffin noted.
Ole Miss is on a bye next week and will play Washington State on Saturday, October 11th.
