Lane Kiffin makes surprising statement about Ole Miss fans following move to LSU

Lane Kiffin’s Departure from Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin’s recent move to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has stirred up quite a bit of conversation. Just last Sunday, he left Ole Miss, but not without a bit of drama surrounding his exit. It seems that a group of unhappy fans made his journey to the airport a bit bumpy, as Kiffin noted they attempted to run his car “off the road.”

On Monday, he was officially announced as LSU’s new head coach. During a press conference, Kiffin shared his aspirations for the program, while also mentioning that he might need police support during stressful situations.

He recounted how intense the atmosphere was, saying, “Call a police officer you know and ask them to help you. Because you’re going to leave the state, you know these people personally. And when people are screaming at you and trying to run you off the road, it’s not just unsettling—it really affects you.”

Kiffin expressed that, while he understands the strong emotions from Ole Miss fans, his experience on that airport trip reinforced his decision to move on. “It’s their passion,” he acknowledged, noting the bittersweetness of his departure, especially after a successful six-year run with the team.

Reflecting on his time, he mentioned a desire to lead Ole Miss to the playoffs and to capitalize on their successes. “I wanted to put things in place to protect the program and finish on a high note,” he said. However, he felt that his request to keep coaching was denied by Athletic Director Keith Carter, ultimately marking the Egg Bowl as his final game.

Defensive coordinator Pete Golding is set to take over as head coach at Ole Miss, where the team holds playoff hopes. Kiffin wrapped up his time there with an impressive record of 55-19, making him one of the most successful coaches in the school’s history.

On his arrival in Baton Rouge, Kiffin took a moment to thank the LSU fans who welcomed him with enthusiasm at the airport, admitting he felt a sense of validation from their support. “It’s the excitement and passion from the fans that really hits you,” he remarked, highlighting the warm reception he received.
