While tensions linger in Oxford, Lane Kiffin is already making moves to recruit at LSU.
The newly appointed coach wasted no time engaging with the top prospects for 2026, including Lamar Brown, who is regarded as the leading defensive tackle prospect. This followed a dramatic and somewhat tumultuous departure from Ole Miss.
Footage from WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge captured Kiffin alongside Brown just outside his new office, celebrating as fans chanted “LSU.”
Interestingly, Kiffin seemed in high spirits, discussing various points with Brown, who is from Baton Rouge. Brown’s mother and Kiffin’s son, Knox, were also there, according to reports.
Brown currently holds the top rank by ESPN. He shared a photo of the two on social media, captioned “Welcome back @Lane_Kiffin #GeauxTigers” shortly after their meeting.
Recruiting is essential for college football coaches, so it’s not surprising that Kiffin’s schedule is packed with visits to important recruits.
ESPN noted that Brown had previously committed to continuing under Brian Kelly’s leadership back in July, yet the recent coaching change doesn’t seem to alter his intent for the coming season.
LSU ranks No. 15 in recruiting classes, according to 247 Sports, but Kiffin’s involvement could elevate that position further.
For Kiffin, this new role represents a fresh commitment following his controversial exit from Ole Miss.
He made the leap from one SEC program to another after seeking permission to stay with Ole Miss for the College Football Playoff, a request that was denied by the athletic director.
Kiffin’s departure didn’t sit well with many; fans greeted him with mixed feelings as he flew to Louisiana but welcomed him warmly upon his arrival in Baton Rouge.
Now, he aims to replicate the success he found at Ole Miss, where he guided the team to a commendable 55-19 record over six seasons and is hopeful for a shot at the national title this year.
