Lara Trump announces she is stepping down as RNC co-chair amidst talk she may be up for Florida Senate seat

Trump only began his co-chairmanship in March, when he played a pivotal role in helping Republicans regain control of the Senate while maintaining a slim majority in the House.

There is talk that she could be considered to replace Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, as President Trump has said he would nominate him to be the next Secretary of State.

Last month, she told Fox News' Sean Hannity that she “want to serve the people of Florida” and that she would “definitely consider” filling the seat if asked.

On Sunday, President Trump spoke with Howard Kurtz about what an honor it was to be considered.

“Certainly, we have had the opportunity over the last nine years to be fully involved in politics and understand the American people and what they want. “It's been over three years since then,” she said. “It would be a real honor to have that placed in front of me.”

Mae Musk, the mother of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is one of many pushing for Rubio to succeed her.

“The Senate is an old man's club. We desperately need smart, young, outspoken women to reveal our secrets,” she posted on X. Lara Trump is 42 years old.

Elon Musk also seems to agree with his mother's sentiments, replying to his mother's X post, saying, “Lara Trump is absolutely amazing.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (RS.C.) said on “Hannity” that he “seems overly excited” and that Republicans “can't do more than Lara Trump.”

Ultimately, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is reportedly being considered to replace Pete Hegseth, will choose Rubio's successor.

Michael Whatley remains RNC chairman.
