Lara Trump claps back at music critics: 'They can't knock me for fundraising'

Republican National Committee (RNC) Co-Chair Lara Trump has hit back at critics of her recently released song “Hero,” quipping that they can't go after her for fundraising or anything election-related.

Last month, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump released a song with singer Madeline James dedicated to emergency workers, sparking a flurry of criticism and ridicule on social media, with some slamming her for releasing music rather than trying to win the November election.

“Chris, everything I've done musically was before I took on my role at the Republican National Convention,” Trump said Sunday on NewsNation's “The Hill Sunday.” “Obviously, the timing of things, [is] “I'm sure people are going to try to attack me on this. I've been very clear what my job is, and that's to win the 2024 election for Donald Trump and all of the Republican candidates.”

“I don't think they can fault me for the fundraising I did as co-chair of the Republican National Committee or any of the other work we've done,” she told NewsNation host Chris Styrewalt.

In the music video for “Hero,” Trump praises first responders with lyrics like, “Without your courage, we'd all be less lucky/There's no denying it/You've got to be special.”

This isn't Trump's first public singing career: last year she released a cover of Tom Petty's 1989 hit “I Won't Back Down.”

She released another single, “Anything is Possible,” earlier this year in which she appeared to hit back at her “liberal media fans” and said she had more songs planned to drop in the future.

Trump pointed out that the latest New York Times/Siena College poll showed her father-in-law trailing Vice President Harris by just one point.

She said this was happening “despite the incredible amount of media enthusiasm and halo effect that Ms. Harris is receiving.”

“So what we're doing is working,” Trump said. “Watch our convention and tell me if you think we've done a good job as co-chairs and chairman along with Michael Whatley of the Republican National Committee since we took over in March. I think the results will tell. If we're going to give Donald Trump a landslide victory, I think we're going to hear from them on November 5th.”

Trump has lost a big lead in the polls since Ms Harris entered the presidential race and replaced President Biden as the top Democratic presidential candidate. Trump has largely ignored her rise in the polls.

The Hill/Decision Desk average of national polls gives the vice president a 3.8 percentage point approval rating over the former president, 49.5 percent to 45.7 percent.
