Reactions to Demands for Trump’s White House Ballroom

Lara Trump recently criticized U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell’s suggestion that future Democratic presidential candidates should promise to tear down the newly constructed $250 million White House ballroom. She dismissed it as absurd, stating, “It’s ridiculous…everyone knows that. And everyone should be happy about this,” while appearing on “Fox & Friends First.”

She added, “But, of course, it’s Eric Swalwell…”

The California Democratic Party has taken a strong stance on this, declaring that aspiring candidates for the 2028 presidential nomination should commit to destroying the ballroom right from the start. They tweeted, “Unless you vow to take a wrecking ball into the Trump Ballroom on day one, you shouldn’t even consider pursuing the Democratic presidential nomination.”

Swalwell’s office didn’t provide immediate feedback on this situation.

Many Democrats have expressed dissatisfaction with the expansive 90,000-square-foot renovation, which brings the White House its first official banquet hall. This ballroom was established to replace the East Wing and reflects the classic aesthetic of the White House.

The Washington Post’s editorial board, however, expressed support for the project, suggesting that a Democratic president would likely embrace the new space for formal events.

Lara Trump reacted to this editorial, saying, “That’s amazing…exactly what it is.” She then added that her only difference of opinion with the editorial board was regarding the Democrats’ reaction to what she insists is a long-awaited and necessary improvement to the White House. “If Democrats act like this about a much-needed beautiful renovation that everyone can enjoy, you never know when another Democrat will emerge as president.”
