Lara Trump says she will not seek to replace Rubio in Senate

Lara Trump, President-elect Trump's daughter-in-law and former co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has been removed from the list of candidates to replace Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida).

“After incredible thought, deliberation, and encouragement from an incredible number of people, I have decided to remove my name from the consideration of the United States Senate,” President Trump wrote. Saturday post on social platform X.

“I could not be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during the most high-stakes election of our lifetimes. I'm truly humbled by the incredible support you've given me, the state of Florida,” she later added.

The president-elect announced in November that he would select Rubio as secretary of state. Earlier this month, Lara Trump resigned as RNC co-chair to “seriously consider” a role in the Senate.

If Rubio is confirmed as secretary of state, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) will choose Rubio's successor. His successor will serve until 2026, after which a special election will be held to decide who will fill out the remaining two years of Rubio's term.

“In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment,” she said.

She also hinted that an announcement was coming in January and urged her followers to “stay tuned.”
