President-elect Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, hints at a “big announcement” next month and says she has withdrawn her name from being considered to replace retiring Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio. Ta.
The announcement comes more than a month after the president-elect nominated Rubio to be secretary of state, sparking speculation that Lara Trump would fill the vacancy in the U.S. Senate.
“After thought, reflection, and encouragement from an incredible number of people, I have decided to remove my name from consideration in the United States Senate.” Lara Trump posted on X.
“I could not be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during the most high-stakes election of our lifetimes. I am truly humbled by the incredible support I have received from Florida State. I've read so many kind messages from everyone, and I can't thank you enough. ”
Expressing her commitment to public service, she added that she would have a “major announcement” in January.
“I remain very passionate about public service and look forward to serving this country again sometime in the future,” she continued.
“In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck in his office.”
Lara Trump, 42, stepped down this month as co-chair of the Republican National Committee, a position she had held since March, adding to the buzz that she would take Rubio's seat.
Trump is married to Eric Trump, the son of Donald Trump.
The president-elect had been pushing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to select a family member to be the Sunshine State's next senator, but he made it clear last week that he was no longer holding out hope.
The Republican governor will choose Rubio's successor for a full six-year term, ending in 2026, if the senator is confirmed as secretary of state in January.
DeSantis wants “a senator who will help President Trump fulfill his electoral mandate, be strong on immigration and border security, stand against entrenched bureaucracies and the administrative state, and be a champion for conservatives at large.” He emphasized that.
The term-limited governor has his sights set on electing a senator early next month.
