Large boat crashes into Brooklyn Bridge in dramatic incident in NYC

A search and rescue operation is ongoing Saturday night following an incident involving a large naval training vessel from Mexico, which collided with New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge, causing people to fall into the muddy waters below.

Footage shared on social media shows the ship’s mast hitting the bridge around 8:30 PM, prompting shouts from both passengers on the vessel and witnesses nearby.

Authorities from the New York Police Department (NYPD) indicated that the Cuauhtémoc, a 150-foot-high training ship, struck the bridge’s underside, with debris and flags from the boat falling into the water.

Fortunately, all 250 people aboard have been accounted for, as confirmed by the New York Fire Department (FDNY).

It seemed the vessel had just passed under the bridge before veering toward a nearby pier and eventually stopping.

The NYPD Harbor Unit is actively involved in the ongoing rescue efforts.

As of now, officials have reported no apparent damage to the bridge itself. Meanwhile, New York Attorney General Letitia James expressed her thoughts, saying, “I pray for everyone on board this ship that hit the Brooklyn Bridge tonight.”
