The final match of the League Cup this past weekend between Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders featured more than just a game on the field.
A shocking video surfaced showing a violent altercation between fans outside Lumen Field in Seattle. This incident appeared to erupt following the Sounders’ 3-0 victory over Inter Miami, revealing a chaotic scene.
One tweet encapsulated the moment, stating that the video, amidst laughter emojis, depicted a large post-game brawl outside the venue, mirroring some of the turmoil that had occurred earlier on the pitch.
Following this, a traffic cone was thrown, hitting Seattle fans in the face and bending their hats. It seemed like one Miami supporter was wielding a long cylindrical object during the fracas.
The 21-second clip showed the pandemonium, revealing that security was notably absent as chaos unfolded.
This disarray outside paralleled some of the disorder seen during the match itself. Following the final whistle, a scuffle broke out when Inter Miami’s Luis Suarez allegedly grabbed Sounders midfielder Obedo Vargas by the neck, escalating tensions further. There were also reports that Sergio Busquets might have punched Vargas.
Suarez appeared to have spit on the Sounders’ security director, Jean Ramirez, escalating the tensions even more.
Despite Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer’s attempts to downplay the events during his post-game interview, the unfolding incidents seem to cast an even darker shadow over the match.
