Las Vegas casino The Mirage must give away $1.6 million before closing

The Las Vegas casino plans to hand out $1.6 million in winnings over the seven days before closing permanently, as required by Nevada state law.

The Mirage will close on July 17 after more than 30 years on the Las Vegas Strip. ABC7 reported. Tuesday.

However, before the casino closes, it must distribute any large unclaimed progressive jackpot winnings from both slot machines and games.

According to the news station, progressive jackpots are owed to players and gamblers, and Nevada law requires that the balances be paid out before the casinos are closed.

Mirage will be handing out cash prizes along with guaranteed prizes from Tuesday, July 9th through Tuesday, July 16th.

The casino, which opened in 1989, guarantees $200,000 in slot wins every first Tuesday through Thursday of every month.

The prize money then increases to $250,000 on Friday and Saturday before dropping to $100,000 on July 16th.

The total slot machine prize pool will be $1.2 million, plus an additional $400,000 in table games jackpot prizes.
