Las Vegas Woman Accused of Stealing Casket with Body Inside

A woman who claims to have a substance abuse problem is accused of stealing a casket containing a body from a funeral home in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then abandoning the body outside the funeral home.

According to an arrest report, the suspect, 47-year-old Patricia Sierra, broke into the establishment on West Charleston Street on Aug. 27. Las Vegas Review-Journal attention on wednesday.

Sierra is accused of removing the body of Maria Ramirez, who died on Aug. 13.

Police said Sierra had passed out after drinking six beers and claimed he couldn't remember why he'd taken the coffin.

Neighbors said they were driving by the store and saw a coffin in the street, and when they approached the building they saw Ramirez's body lying face down in the yard.

When officers found Sierra later, she said she had substance abuse problems, would black out and had anger issues that led to destructive behavior.

There View Police were searching for a woman who died at the funeral home just hours before the break-in, according to 8 News Now.

The suspect claimed he did not remember the incident but told police he was the person in the video and apologized.

She is charged with burglary of a business establishment, grand theft and removing, transporting or disturbing a human remains. Review Journal Her bail in the case was originally set at $11,000, according to the report.

In February 2021, police in St. Louis County, Missouri, were searching for a funeral home vehicle that had been stolen with a body from a convenience store, Breitbart News reported.
