Ratavius Murray Retires from NFL
After a notable career in the NFL, Ratavius Murray is officially retiring from football.
The 35-year-old, who last played for the Bills in 2023, made the announcement on Instagram this past Wednesday. He wrote, “They have never seen a pro in me. But 11 years later, I showed you what the pros really look like.”
Murray spent a decade in the NFL, with stints at the Raiders (from 2014 to 2016), Vikings (2017-2018), Saints (2019-2020), Ravens (2021), Broncos (2022), and Bills (2023).
Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 230 pounds, he accumulated 6,552 rushing yards and scored 59 touchdowns throughout his career, averaging over 500 rushing yards for nine out of ten seasons.
His standout performance came during the 2015 season with the Raiders, where he achieved 1,066 rushing yards and six touchdowns, earning a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Murray, originally from Titusville, Florida, had an impressive college career at UCF between 2008 and 2012, rushing for 2,424 yards and 37 touchdowns during that time.
Drafted sixth overall by the Raiders in 2013, he quickly made an impact on the team. After three years in Oakland, he shared the workload with Dalvin Cook in Minnesota, before joining the Saints. Following that, he was part of the backfield in Baltimore alongside Devonta Freeman, then teamed up with Melvin Gordon in Denver, and most recently paired with James Cook in Buffalo.
For his retirement, Murray shared a video on Instagram that featured tributes from former teammates. Derek Carr, reflecting on their friendship, noted how one of the NFL greats, Drew Brees, had high praise for him. Brees described Murray as “a strong man, a huge man.”
As the video concluded, another teammate called Murray the “ultimate professional,” summing up the admiration many had for him during his football journey.
