Lakers Coach Updates on Luka Doncic’s Injury Status
During a recent press conference, Lakers coach JJ Redick provided a brief update on star player Luka Doncic’s injury situation, stating simply, “No updates.” His words left fans wanting more, as it’s been five weeks since Doncic sustained a Grade 2 hamstring injury against the Thunder, the same team they will face in the second round of the playoffs.
Doncic had already missed the first round against the Rockets due to this injury. The Lakers managed to win that series in six games, but they are now gearing up for a tougher matchup against the reigning champions. Unfortunately, it appears that Doncic may not be ready to contribute in the early games of this next series.
After undergoing advanced treatment in Spain in hopes of accelerating his recovery, Doncic’s progress has been, well, mixed at best. He has limited activity on the court—some shooting and light movement—but he hasn’t yet been cleared for full-speed running or contact practices. Reporters noted his absence during a Sunday practice session, but he is expected to be re-evaluated before the next team travel to Oklahoma City.
Teammate Austin Reeves expressed the importance of Doncic’s presence on the court, saying, “Obviously, we always want Luka to be out there. He’s one of the best players in the league, if not the best player. It changes everything for us.” Clearly, his absence affects how the team operates, as he’s not just a scorer but also a key figure in managing the game’s rhythm and pace.
According to sources, Doncic is anticipated to miss the first couple of games in the Western Conference semifinal series at Oklahoma. With Game 3 scheduled to occur on Saturday in Los Angeles, this timing is crucial, as it falls within the typical recovery window of four to eight weeks for a Grade 2 hamstring injury.
The Lakers will need to bring their best performance into Tuesday’s series opener against the Thunder, especially considering they might be starting without one of their top players.
