through thick and thin.
ESPN’s Laura Rutledge took a firm stand when fans criticized her husband, Josh, who played in Major League Baseball from 2012 to 2017. Rather than staying silent, she developed a fake Twitter account to address the negativity directed at him.
“Back when he was playing for the Angels, I created a burner account,” she shared, admitting it wasn’t her proudest moment. “I know that was kind of wrong, but it was just a one-time thing. I named it something like Bilehalo76, and it only posted positive comments about Josh and occasionally Mike Trout.”
“If someone said something negative, I’d jump in with stats to counter them, saying, ‘You’re mistaken.’ I don’t think Josh knows I did this. If he found out, he would probably be really upset with me.”
Josh Rutledge, an infielder, began with the Rockies before being traded to the Angels after the 2014 season. He later joined the Red Sox before finishing his career in 2017.
Laura reflected on the challenges of dealing with criticism towards her husband, recounting, “It was really tough. He played for the Red Sox, and they had him at third base, which he hadn’t played since middle school.”
After a short time with the Giants, Josh retired in 2018.
Laura has been making a name for herself at ESPN and was recently promoted to cover “Monday Night Football” during the NFL season, where she will be sideline reporting alongside Lisa Salters.
This week, she is also hosting “NFL Live” and “Sec Nation” on Saturday.
Married since 2013, Josh and Laura have two children together.
