Lauren Semanchik was apprehensive about her former NJ trooper boyfriend before the murder.

Lauren Semantick, a veterinarian, was murdered, reportedly after expressing fears for her safety and threatening to pursue restraining orders against New Jersey trooper Ricardo Santos.

Text messages dating back to October reveal a troubling pattern in Santos’s communications with Semantick, where he oscillated between admiration and hostility. He would compliment her, then accuse her of manipulation and deceit. It’s puzzling how someone could swing so dramatically from kind to cruel.

In one of her messages, Semantick indicated she felt “threatened” and mentioned discovering that there was water in her gas tank, which raised alarms for her. There was also concern over Santos’s potential violation of her privacy, as their discussions hinted at him monitoring her online activity.

Semantick’s new partner, Tyler Webb, 29, noted Santos’s unsettling behavior, despite the fact that Santos had previously been trusted to protect high-profile officials, including Governor Phil Murphy.

Throughout their communications, Semantick expressed a desire to distance herself from Santos, stating, “If you reach out to me or continue to invade my privacy, I will seek a restraining order.” Unfortunately, there was a delay in obtaining any legal protection, as she didn’t receive timely responses from authorities.

As communicated through their messages, Santos sometimes seemed erratic and combative, struggling to reconcile his feelings and behaviors. He labeled Semantick as a “narcissistic bully” while simultaneously seeking another chance with her. It’s confusing how he could embody such extremes.

Their relationship reportedly began in February 2024 when Santos, who initially presented himself as a caring figure during Semantick’s recovery from injuries, won her over with gifts and attention. However, as Semantick regained her independence, the relationship took a turn, exposing underlying issues related to Santos’s behavior.

Tragically, Santos killed Semantick and Webb outside her home before taking his own life about 50 miles away. The authorities have confirmed these details following the discovery of the bodies.

Allison Semantick, Lauren’s sister, fondly remembered her as a compassionate person with a zest for life who wanted to help others. She described Lauren as quirky and caring, saying, “All she wanted was to help animals and make people feel more comfortable.”

Webb, who was relatively new to the relationship, was also honored as a devoted friend. His longtime friend, Jessica Lynn Cox, highlighted that Webb was always seen as a hero, asking for thoughts and prayers for his family during this tragic time.
