Protesters Warned Ahead of Rubio’s Senate Testimony

Senator Jim Riche (R-ID) shared with Breitbart News that protesters attending Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Senate testimony on Tuesday might face significant consequences if they disrupt the proceedings. Rubio will present before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the State Department’s budget requests, and a notable presence of protesters is expected. However, Chairman Riche, who is not particularly fond of chaos during hearings, has made it clear that any disturbances will not be tolerated.

According to the DC Code, the committee chair has the authority to remove disruptive protesters from the hearing room. Yet, Riche plans to take it a step further; if protesters return after being removed—whether during the current hearing or a subsequent one—they could be arrested immediately by Capitol police. This is also within the legal framework established by the DC Code.

“I fully support the First Amendment, but protesters cannot disrupt vital committee operations,” Riche stated. “The diligent members of the Capitol Police will act swiftly to remove any protesters disrupting Sen. Rubio’s hearing. We will not tolerate any criminal behavior—it’s a complete stoppage.” He noted that protesters had previously caused interruptions during Rubio’s confirmation hearing back in January, yet despite the disruptions, he was confirmed unanimously by the Senate, with a vote of 99-0.

Rubio, who previously ran for President under Donald Trump, has been critical of illegal protests, particularly those supporting Hamas, which have caused disruption at various universities, including Columbia.

Riche emphasized that the law will be upheld in his hearing room, asserting, “The Republicans control Congress and the administration, and law and order are returning to the U.S. Capitol.” He gave this statement to Breitbart News.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s hearings on the State Department’s fiscal year 2026 budget request will commence at 10 a.m. Eastern Time and can be watched online.
