Tragic Death of Young Brazilian Lawyer Following Allergic Reaction
A heartbreaking incident unfolded recently as a young Brazilian lawyer passed away due to a severe allergic reaction during a routine CT scan.
Leticia Paul, just 22 years old, suffered an anaphylactic shock on Wednesday while undergoing a contrast-enhanced CT scan at the Alto Vale Regional Hospital in Rio do Sul.
This unfortunate reaction stemmed from the contrast dye used before the scan.
Her aunt mentioned that Leticia was rushed to the hospital right away, but tragically, she succumbed within 24 hours of the procedure.
Anaphylactic shock is a very serious allergic reaction that can lead to breathing difficulties, throat swelling, a drastic drop in blood pressure, among other alarming symptoms. Emergency treatment is crucial to prevent fatal outcomes.
Leticia had been dealing with kidney stones when she went in for the CT scan. Up until her untimely death, she had been undergoing regular medical check-ups for various health issues.
She was cremated at the Vatican crematorium located in the city of Barnelio Camboriú, as reported.
A recent graduate from Colégio Sinodal Ruy Barbosa’s legal program, she was actively pursuing further studies in law and real estate.
“We stand in solidarity with her family and friends, offering our deepest condolences during such a painful time,” the school stated.
In response to this tragic event, the Alto Vale Regional Hospital released a statement expressing their sorrow and extending their support to Leticia’s family.
The hospital emphasized its dedication to ethical practices, transparency, and patient safety, assuring that all procedures adhered to recommended clinical guidelines. Generally, the contrast dyes used in CT scans are considered safe, but allergic reactions, though rare, can occur in about one in every 5,000 to 10,000 cases. Most individuals might only experience mild sensations like warmth or itchy skin after the injection.
