Lawmakers are considering major revisions to employment statistics for 2023.

Education and Labor Committee Chair Virginia Foxx (R) and Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee Chair Bob Good (R) sent a letter to Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su asking what is happening. I asked for an answer as to whether there is one.

Employment in 2023 was overestimated by 800,000 people, the largest revision since 2009.

Center Square reported:

Lawmakers are launching an investigation into the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics after the agency vastly overestimated the number of jobs created last year and painted a far more optimistic picture of the U.S. economy than it actually was.

Education and Labor Committee Chair Virginia Foxx (R-LA) and Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee Chair Bob Good (R-LA) write to Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Hsu and asked for an answer.

“It is concerning that the Department of Labor would issue an unusually large revision to last year's employment statistics,” Rep. Adrian Smith (R-Nebraska) said in August, following the major revisions. On the 21st, I wrote this on X, formerly known as Twitter. “As unemployment rises, American workers need growth-oriented action, not the Biden-Harris administration's outdated policies.”

Mr. Fox also expressed concern that the BLS allegedly provided advance notice to Wall Street firms about market-moving data.

“BLS scheduled the release of job numbers on August 21 at 10 a.m. EDT,” the letter states. “However, the BLS did not release them at this time. Instead, the BLS released them 30 minutes later. While the public waited for the release, the BLS did not release them to some Wall Street firms prior to their release. provided the job number.
