Gunshots rang out nearby while former President Trump was playing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, but lawmakers, family members and others reacted to the news that he was safe.

It was not immediately clear whether the shots were aimed at Trump, but Secret Service agents surrounded him and hurried him to safety on the golf club's fifth hole. Steven Chung, a member of the Trump campaign communications team, issued a statement after the incident.

“President Trump is safe despite hearing gunfire nearby. Further details are unclear at this time,” Chang said.

President Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., responded with “Not again!”, an allusion to the attempted assassination of President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.

Trump Jr. also said there were reports that a suspect had been arrested.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-Lausanne) retweeted a post from the Trump War Room about former President Trump's security.
