Melania Trump Addresses Allegations of Association with Jeffrey Epstein
First lady Melania Trump faced a wave of reactions on Thursday after making a bold on-camera statement denying any connection to disgraced financier and convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Her comments came earlier in the day during a public appearance when she was asked about the issue.
Melania insisted she had no friendship with Epstein or his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, stating that neither played a role in introducing her husband to former President Donald Trump. “The lies linking me to the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein need to stop today,” she asserted. “Those who spread falsehoods about me show a lack of ethical standards, humility, and respect. I don’t oppose their ignorance; rather, I object to their spiteful attempts to tarnish my reputation.”
She highlighted that her name never appeared in any court documents associated with Epstein. Following her remarks, several politicians promptly took to social media to publicly support the first lady.
Representative Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), a prominent advocate in Congress for releasing Epstein-related documents, praised Melania on X (formerly Twitter) with a caption stating, “Melania Trump stands by Epstein’s victims.” She commended the first lady for her advocacy on a bill aiming to criminalize the sharing of fake intimate images of women. “Thank you, First Lady, for being an advocate for victims across the nation, from your work on the Take It Down Act to publicly representing Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors and demanding action and truth,” Mace expressed. “Truth prevails. America is stronger when courageous women advocate for what is right,” she added.
On another note, Rep. Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican, referenced Melania’s call for survivors to testify before Congress in the context of his ongoing efforts to pass the Epstein File Transparency Act. He expressed concern about the accountability of those handling the investigative files, including recently removed Attorney General Pam Bondi. “With all due respect, that’s @DAGToddBlanche’s job!” he commented, stressing that brave survivors deserve a platform to share their stories.
Melania’s comments didn’t go unnoticed in opposing political circles. Representative Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) urged House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) to act immediately on her call for a hearing with Epstein’s survivors. “We support First Lady Melania Trump’s request for a hearing. Chairman Comer should respond promptly,” he posted.
Amid these exchanges, some Democrats criticized her remarks, with Garcia suggesting the first lady’s words marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation into Epstein. He noted that they could help propel the inquiry into greater visibility, which some critics argue is insufficiently robust.
As this situation continues to unfold, it remains unclear how the political landscape will shift, or what tangible actions might follow from this renewed focus on the Epstein case and the issues surrounding it.
