Lawrence Taylor reveals he almost quit football, why he didn’t

The Giants – and the NFL – history looked almost different.

Lawrence Taylor is considered the best defensive player ever and wanted to quit football in high school, but it made it clear that his dad wouldn't let him.

“I thought it was too much,” Taylor said. He said on Outkick's “Keep with Tyrus” show. When I went to soccer in my third year, I wanted to quit. And my father saw me, “You're not going to stop.

“And once I started to get a bit of it, he told me, 'Hey, you just had to be better than the next guy to be equal.” So listen, I'm chasing who's in front of me, that's who I have to deal with. And I think a lot of coaches, or my coaches anyway, allowed me to play the game the way I saw it. ”

Of course, Taylor did not quit, agonizing resistance against the offensive line and quarterback.

For 13 years in the NFL, along with the Giants, Taylor was selected eight times as a first-team All-Pro.

He also won the MVP in 1986. Since then, defensive players have not received awards.

The Giants won two Super Bowls, Lawrence appeared in the defense, and Bill Belichick masterminded the unit as defensive coordinator.

The legendary coach appreciates Lawrence very highly.

“The biggest defensive player in NFL history,” Belichick said during his co-starring with Lawrence from “Manning Cast” of the Giants Steele game on October 28, 2024. . I used him on a special team too, so it didn't matter if it was on defensive or on a special team. …This man was power. He revolutionized the game. ”
