A local defense attorney was arrested Monday at a North Carolina law office on suspicion of assaulting a woman, Law&Crime reported.
Mary Reaser Rogers, 53, allegedly started a violent argument over an alleged personal relationship between the victim and one of Rogers’ clients. according to To law and crime. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman with blood and scratches on her face. The altercation escalated when Rogers allegedly punched the victim in the face multiple times.
The situation worsened when police took Rogers into custody. She reportedly kicked one officer in the leg and spat in another officer’s face. Rogers continued to resist, lying in the police car and refusing to sit down. Despite her officers’ efforts to control her, Rogers threw herself out of her car and screamed, causing a disturbance in her public life, the newspaper said.

Officers believed Ms. Rogers was having a seizure and took her to the hospital. However, there it was revealed that she had been impersonating herself, which she admitted to the hospital staff. Rogers currently faces multiple charges, including assault, assault on a government official and malicious conduct by a prisoner. She posted her bond and she is awaiting a court appearance scheduled for May 7, the newspaper said.
A Charlotte native and graduate of Davidson College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rogers was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1995. He previously worked for the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office. According to Law&Crime, Mr. Rogers is currently representing Michael Withers, a suspect in a high-profile murder case of 2021.
