Both Democrats and Republicans offered their prayers this Sunday for former President Joe Biden and his family following the announcement of his cancer diagnosis.
Surprisingly, even some political adversaries expressed their support after a spokesperson revealed that Biden, at 82 years old, was diagnosed with an “aggressive” type of prostate cancer discovered during a recent test.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had previously called Biden a “liar” in a 2023 speech, took a moment to express her sympathy, saying, “Sorry to see this news. Cancer is really bad.” She shared a personal connection, mentioning that her father had passed away from cancer in 2021. “I pray for Joe Biden and his family,” Greene added.
Politicians from both parties came together to offer condolences and support to the oldest former president. Even former President Trump, well known for his critical remarks about political opponents, sent a hopeful message to Biden.
“We will spread the warmest and best wishes to Jill and his family. Joe wishes a quick and successful recovery,” Trump stated on behalf of himself and Melania Trump.
Vice President Kamala Harris also extended her support, emphasizing how saddened she and her husband were to hear about Biden’s diagnosis. “Joe is a fighter, and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that has always defined his life and leadership. We look forward to a complete and quick recovery,” she posted.
Former President Barack Obama, who has a long history with Biden, shared words of encouragement as well. “Michelle and I are thinking about the whole Biden family,” he tweeted. “I have never known anyone more dedicated to finding breakthrough cancer treatments than Joe. I am sure he will tackle this challenge with his usual determination and grace.” He wished for a swift recovery.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also expressed his sorrow regarding Biden’s situation, mentioning that he and his family would join others in praying for him. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) echoed similar sentiments, stating he would also pray for Biden and his family.
Senator Steve Scalise (R-La.) shared his thoughts, stating, “I pray for former President Joe Biden as he battles prostate cancer.” Meanwhile, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed her prayers as well, calling Biden a “great American patriot,” and wishing for his quick recovery.
Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader, mentioned that the Biden family has faced numerous challenges over the years with grace and resilience. “The House Democrat Caucus and our nation are praying for President Biden and his family during this difficult time,” he stated, reflecting on Biden’s strength throughout his life.
Hillary Clinton, who once ran against Biden in the 2016 election, along with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, shared their support. Hillary noted how cancer affects many families and wished for Biden’s rapid recovery. Bill added, “My friend Joe Biden has always been a fighter,” stating that they were keeping him, Jill, and the entire family in their thoughts.
