Netanyahu Issues Stark Warning to Hamas Amid Escalating Tensions
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a bold message to Hamas and its supporters globally, following a significant Israeli operation targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar. He asserted that the era when “the Jews could be killed with immunity” is over since the founding of Israel.
Just hours after Israel executed the strike in Doha, which caught Hamas leaders—who often find refuge in Qatar—off guard, Netanyahu defended the operation. He made it clear that geographical boundaries would not shield anyone from Israeli justice.
This strike was a direct response to the recent surge in Hamas-related violence, which resulted in the deaths of four Israeli soldiers and six civilians near a bus stop in Jerusalem. It has been criticized that Hamas leadership has long directed violent acts while residing in comfort in Doha.
“Yesterday, four of our soldiers were killed by Hamas terrorists, and six innocent Israeli civilians lost their lives at a bus stop in Jerusalem. This morning, Hamas boasted about these acts,” Netanyahu stated.
On Tuesday, he convened Israeli security officials and sanctioned a precise attack on the head of Hamas, specifically targeting the individual responsible for orchestrating the October 7th attacks.
Netanyahu’s comments highlighted the horrific nature of the assaults, referencing “1,200 brutal murders” involving violence against men, women, and children. He also pointed out Qatar’s role, emphasizing that Hamas leaders had celebrated their violent actions in the same luxurious setting not long ago.
The Prime Minister clarified that the operation was an “entirely independent Israeli initiative” and that Israel assumes full responsibility, stating there was no requirement for international consensus or coordination with the United States.
“At the war’s onset, we vowed to hold accountable those responsible for these atrocities, and today, we have fulfilled that commitment,” he remarked, criticizing the global memory lapse regarding Hamas’ actions.
Netanyahu connected the strike to a larger strategy aimed at concluding the ongoing Gaza War, suggesting that it might pave the way for Israel’s acceptance of a hostage release proposal put forth by former President Donald Trump.
Addressing Gazans directly, he urged them to disavow Hamas: “Do not support these terrorists who disregard your suffering. They reside in luxury while you bear the consequences. Stand up for your future and consider reconciliation with us or embrace the proposal from President Trump.”
The attack was met with outcry from Qatar, describing it as “a blatant violation of all international law and norms.” Conversely, the White House expressed disappointment, calling it a “one-sided strike” that does not advance either American or Israeli objectives.
This operation signifies a sharp escalation in Israel’s efforts against Hamas, extending the conflict beyond Gaza to target leaders believed to have previously evaded retribution. Netanyahu’s message was unequivocal: the days when Jewish lives could be taken without consequence are over.
