Leading Democrat promises investigation into Epstein documents: ‘Someone is not telling the truth’

Top Oversight Democrat pledges probe into Epstein files: 'Someone is lying'

Calls for Inquiry into Epstein Case

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), a leading Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, called on his fellow lawmakers Wednesday to push for clarity regarding Jeffrey Epstein.

“It’s clear to the American people that someone is lying. Someone is trying to conceal the truth,” Garcia remarked during a speech on the House floor. “The facts surrounding this case remain unclear.”

Last week, the Justice Department (DOJ) issued a memo stating that Epstein had no so-called “client list” and that his death in 2019 was ruled a suicide. This announcement came amid ongoing speculation from Trump supporters regarding Epstein’s legal matters.

President Trump criticized his supporters on Wednesday, demanding more information about documents related to Epstein.

“They’ve dubbed it the Jeffrey Epstein hoax, and my former supporters have fallen for this completely. I said it—it’s a true statement,” he posted. “They clearly haven’t learned from their mistakes, even after eight years of radical antics.”

“Let these vulnerable folks continue to carry on and do the Democrats’ work. Don’t even think about mentioning our incredible, unprecedented success,” he added.

Garcia highlighted the long-standing connection between Epstein and Trump during a session of the House. He referenced past remarks from the president, comments on questionable financiers, and insights from key officials in Trump’s administration, including Attorney General Pam Bondy.

“I can’t explain why the Trump administration shifted its stance on Epstein, but their actions raise significant questions,” Garcia noted. “This is why we must seek an answer, and the oversight committee intends to do just that.”

However, despite their intentions, Democrats on the committee lack the power to issue subpoenas due to the Republican majority in the House.

The office of Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) did not respond promptly to a request for comments.

Additionally, leading Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are calling for a hearing as well.

“President Trump and his top officials in the DOJ and FBI have been pushing the narrative that a ‘Deep State’ is obscuring the reality of the child sex trafficking and abuse network linked to Epstein and others,” they stated.

“Trump’s approach and the FBI’s handling of Epstein’s case, along with the sudden changes in Trump’s position, have not instilled confidence in the government but rather raised troubling new questions about their actions, feeding public paranoia regarding the investigation,” they concluded.
