Leading opponent of Sharia law claims 'only John Cornyn' has the background to combat radical Islam

Ayaan Hirsi Ali Endorses John Cornyn in Texas Senate Race

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a noted women’s rights advocate who escaped Islamic law, has publicly endorsed Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) as he seeks re-election in a significant Senate contest that could impact the Republican majority.

In a recent video, Ali, who has spoken about her personal experiences, including escaping Somalia after suffering female genital mutilation, stated, “John Cornyn is the only person with a track record of stopping Islamic extremism.”

She went on to express her concerns, saying, “I’ve seen what happens when the dangers of Islamic extremism are ignored. It’s not just an overseas issue; America is not exempt from it, including Texas.” She emphasized the importance of experience in such matters.

As the Texas Senate primary heats up, Cornyn faces competition from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and State Representative Wesley Hunt. Interestingly, while former President Donald Trump hasn’t officially endorsed any candidate, he hinted he might engage with the race, mentioning that he has a good relationship with all three contenders.

Governance and Sharia Law Concerns

Recently, Texas political leaders have voiced worries about the spread of Sharia law in the state. Governor Greg Abbott has labeled the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim Brotherhood as a “foreign terrorist organization” under Texas law.

Ali’s remarks subtly critiqued Paxton and Hunt, stressing that Cornyn’s record on combating Sharia law is crucial. She insisted that Cornyn “takes the threat seriously when others resort to denial and political maneuvering.” Her call was clear: “If we want a Texas that protects its people and values, we need leaders who recognize and address these dangers.”

“Vote for John Cornyn to strengthen Texas and safeguard it from Islamic extremism,” she urged.

Cornyn’s Legislative Actions

Responding to Ali, Cornyn expressed his gratitude for her support, noting her courage in sharing her experiences regarding the threats posed by Islamic extremism. His office outlined various initiatives he led to fight against Sharia law in the U.S., including efforts to prohibit U.S. courts from enforcing foreign laws and pushing for investigations related to alleged Muslim-only developments in Texas.

Cornyn has also sponsored legislation aimed at revoking tax-exempt status from organizations that provide support to designated terrorist groups, with a clear emphasis on CAIR. Additionally, he co-sponsored the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act, which calls for the organization to be labeled a foreign terrorist entity.

“I have consistently worked to confront extremist ideologies, whether by pushing to outlaw Sharia law or aiding law enforcement in targeting terrorist organizations,” Cornyn affirmed. “I am dedicated to protecting Texans from extremist threats.

Upcoming Primary Election

With the primary election approaching in just over two weeks, Cornyn holds endorsements from key Republican figures and organizations. Meanwhile, Paxton has received backing from Turning Point Action, while Hunt gains support from America First Veterans.

Both Paxton and Hunt share opposition to Sharia law in Texas, with Paxton having initiated lawsuits against CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood to impede their operations in the state. Hunt has labeled Sharia law as “inconsistent with American founding principles,” advocating for its exclusion from the legal framework in the country.

As the race intensifies, it remains to be seen how these endorsements and positions will influence voters. Irrespective of the outcomes, the winner of the Republican primary will face stiff competition from Democratic candidates, including Representative Jasmine Crockett and Representative James Talarico.

Ali is expected to participate in a campaign roundtable with religious leaders in North Texas later this week.
