White House Press Secretary Criticizes Minnesota Governor Over Cheating Scandal

On Monday, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt took aim at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as the state’s cheating scandal forced the governor to withdraw from his reelection campaign.

“President Trump has pointed out Tim Walz’s incompetence and corrupt leadership for quite some time, and he’s been right,” Leavitt stated during an appearance on “Jesse Watters Prime Time.”

She added, “What was once hailed as the land of 10,000 lakes has unfortunately turned into something else entirely, which is a bit concerning.” This remark was in reference to various fraud schemes in Minnesota that investigators claim involved the misappropriation of taxpayer dollars intended for social services.

Notably, some of these cases involve nonprofits accused of providing false applications or mishandling funds, with ongoing audits and prosecutions.

Republicans have criticized the Walz administration, asserting that the governor overlooked significant warning signs and permitted the improper allocation of substantial funds.

“The extent of the fraud uncovered by the Trump administration, aided by diligent independent reporters like Nick Shirley, is certainly alarming,” Leavitt noted, mentioning a viral video showcasing a Minnesota childcare center that reportedly received millions in government aid while not operating.

Leavitt warned that “people will be handcuffed” if a thorough investigation is not conducted into the Minnesota fraud scandal.

“The Department of Justice has already indicted nearly 100 individuals in Minnesota. This situation truly seems to be a comprehensive governmental issue.” Walz has admitted to wrongdoing and emphasized that the scandal is “on my radar,” taking responsibility to address the situation, although his administration has heaped skepticism on some federal estimates regarding the scale of fraud.

Walz initiated a third-party audit, and according to reports, the state of Minnesota has halted payments for certain services through the Department of Human Services while this audit progresses.

In response to the allegations besetting his administration, a spokesperson for Walz stated, “The Governor has spent years working to combat fraud and has sought more authority from the Legislature to take decisive actions. Increased oversight has been a priority.”
