Leavitt Hits Back at Jeffries’ Accusations Amid Shutdown Tensions
This week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt strongly criticized House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. She went as far as to call him an “America Last, stone-cold loser,” responding to his attempt to undermine her with divisive language.
On Friday morning, Jeffries, representing New York, took aim at Leavitt and the Republicans during ongoing government shutdown, which shows no signs of resolution as both parties seem stuck in their views.
“You’ve got Karoline Leavitt, who’s sick. She’s out of control. And I’m not sure whether she’s just demented, ignorant, a stone-cold liar, or all of the above,” Jeffries remarked.
He added that it was nonsensical for a White House spokesperson to claim the Democratic Party is made up of “terrorists, violent criminals, and undocumented immigrants,” particularly in the context of a government shutdown.
Jeffries was reacting to a comment Leavitt made during a Thursday interview on Fox News, where she described the Democratic Party’s supporters as largely consisting of “Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals.”
This statement followed a video featuring Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist running for NYC mayor, who had hesitated to directly denounce Hamas.
In response to Jeffries’ remarks, Leavitt fired back, suggesting that his party was just “lashing out” because they recognized the truth in her statements.
She asserted that Democrats exhibit alarming sympathy for Hamas and criticized their support of former President Biden’s open-border policies, stating these actions jeopardize America’s security.
“The Democrat Party’s elected officials absolutely cater to pro-Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals. House Democrats voted against a resolution condemning Hamas after the horrific October 7 terrorist attacks, while also encouraging pro-Hamas protesters on college campuses,” Leavitt declared.
She further accused Democrats of neglecting the safety of Americans by allowing millions of illegal immigrants, including people with criminal backgrounds, into the country over the past few years.
“Democrats coddle violent criminals and promote soft-on-crime policies that free offenders to harm law-abiding citizens,” she added.
“They do NOT serve the interests of the American people. Hakeem Jeffries is an America last, stone-cold loser. Now open up the government and stop attempting to appease your radical left-wing base,” Leavitt concluded.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate once again failed to pass a continuing resolution, leading to the 10th failed vote and extending the government shutdown. The latest attempt concluded with a 51 to 45 vote, which did not meet the necessary 60 votes to approve the spending bill.
Democrats have been criticized for obstructing this crucial funding bill while using it to push their health care agenda. Republicans, on the other hand, emphasize fiscal responsibility and have promised to address health care issues once government funding is secured.
The Senate has adjourned for the weekend and is scheduled to reconvene on Monday.
