There was a cheerful atmosphere in the Lakers' locker room Saturday night.
LeBron James sparked a celebration in Las Vegas after the Lakers defeated the Pacers 123-109 to become champions of the first in-season tournament.
In a video shared on social media, James, 38, can be seen opening a bottle of champagne and spraying himself with his teammates in the locker room.
“We made history” said james After the victory. “Whenever you're on the right side of history, you embrace it. The first in-season tournament belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers. It will never be surpassed. Ever.”
James recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists in the championship game and was named the first in-season tournament MVP.
Teammate Anthony Davis had 41 points, 20 rebounds and five assists in the final, with head coach Darvin Ham praising the duo as “a hell of a one-two punch.”
“Those one or two guys could be one of them on any given night. After all, they know how to take it to the next level when everything is on the line. '' Ham said.
As the postgame celebrations continued, the Lakers, who are now 14-9 this season, enjoyed the NBA Cup.
In addition to prize money, Lakers players will receive $500,000 for winning the tournament. Those doing two-way trading only receive half.
An already memorable weekend for James continues Sunday as his eldest son, USC freshman Bronny James, is expected to play in his first game for the Trojans.
Bronny, 19, suffered a cardiac arrest while practicing at the University of Southern California in July.
He was cleared to make a full return in late November.
The Trojans host the Long Beach State 49ers on Sunday afternoon.
