Lee Roy Jordan, Former Dallas Cowboys Star, Passes Away at 84
The Dallas Cowboys have announced the passing of Lee Roy Jordan, a celebrated linebacker known for his role in the team’s first Super Bowl victory in 1971. He died at the age of 84, although specific details regarding his death have not been shared.
Jordan had an impressive college career at Alabama under the legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant before being selected in the first round of the 1963 NFL Draft by the Cowboys.
He was integral to the Cowboys’ defense that triumphed over the Miami Dolphins 24-3 in the 1971 Super Bowl. After retiring from professional football in 1976, the team went on to secure another championship the following year. Jordan was selected for the Pro Bowl five times and was the first player inducted into the team’s ring of honor under Jerry Jones’ ownership.
Jordan holds the second position on the Cowboys’ all-time tackle list with 1,236 tackles, only behind Darren Woodson, who achieved 1,350 tackles during his career with the team.
