He didn't start the fire!
But don't tell that to left-handed city auditor and mayoral aspirant Brad Lander, who essentially blamed President-elect Donald Trump for the Prospect Park wildfire.
Lander on Saturday blamed climate change for wildfires plaguing New Jersey and a wildfire that broke out in Prospect Park Friday night amid historically dry weather across the Northeast. He joined the growing number of far-left forces.
But the Democratic Socialist and potential 2025 mayoral candidate went a step further, accusing Trump and other conservatives of lighting matches and setting the fire.
“Let's be clear: These wildfires are the result of droughts accelerated by climate change,” Lander wrote. Facebook.
“When Trump/MAGA rolls back climate action, they will burn down the things we love. We need to fight hard and be more creative than ever to protect them. Sho.”
Lander, who lives near Park Slope's iconic green space, thanked FDNY firefighters for extinguishing the fire.
He added: “Heartbroken by yesterday's fire at our beloved @prospect_park. This is the place of so many of our families' greatest joys, from baseball to birthday parties to celebratory BK, and during the pandemic… It saved our lives and was my usual resting place.''
Moderate Queens City Councilman Robert Holden said Lander's comments about President Trump were the latest example of him pandering to the far left.
“Brad Pander, the epitome of political irrelevance, has outdone himself in yet another pathetic display. As shameless as ever, because shame requires self-awareness,” he said.
“When his fateful mayoral bid fails and goes up in flames, he will no doubt blame Trump and then crawl back into the obscurity he never should have left.”
