A legal immigrant from Nicaragua told Republican National Convention (RNC) attendees on Monday that he regrets voting for President Joe Biden in 2020 but will not do so in November.
When Linda Fonos took to the stage in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she Said She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, 60 years ago in search of a better life.
“America welcomed me and I embraced its values of hard work, learning the language and respecting the law – that’s what it means to be American,” she told a packed audience that included former President Donald Trump, who had officially become the 2024 Republican presidential nominee just hours earlier.
But in 2022, she and her three sons lost everything when their home burned down, and were forced to start again as Americans struggled under Biden’s economy.
“As a life insurance worker, I see the struggles people face as they try to save for the future while barely meeting their basic needs. I face those same struggles every day,” she explained. Fono added that the open borders have made things worse, as Americans see “millions of dollars being sent to help immigrants who are in the country illegally, while working families who have done the right thing suffer.”
“In 2020 I made mistakes, mistakes that are hard to admit, especially in this room,” Fono said, as the audience laughed. “In 2020 I voted for Joe Biden. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
“He has made me regret it. This November, my vote will not be taken for granted. And this time, I will not regret it. Please join me in voting for Donald J. Trump,” she said, as the crowd, including Trump, rose to their feet.
On the first day of their convention, Republicans focused on inflation in the Biden administration’s economy, according to Breitbart News.
“An economy suffering from the worst inflation in 40 years is a major weakness for incumbent President Joe Biden,” wrote The Post’s John Carney. “Polls show that Americans are deeply dissatisfied with Biden’s economic leadership and do not believe his economic policies will improve the economic situation for their families or the country.”
The convention kicked off with an emphasis on “unity” in the wake of the attempted assassination of President Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, according to Breitbart News.
