Legality of Musk's $1M offer ‘questionable’: Fmr. Pennsylvania AG

(news nation) — Tech billionaire Elon Musk announced plans to donate $1 million a day to voters who sign his political action committee's petition supporting the Constitution.

America PAC's petition supports the First Amendment, which protects free speech, and the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to “keep and bear arms.” Among other things, you must be registered to vote in order to sign.

Musk, an ardent supporter of former President Trump, has faced criticism from the legal community for the move.

Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Bruce Castor says:Dan Abrams live” Tesla billionaire and owner of Company X claims the move is a “backdoor way” of paying people to vote, treading the line of legality.

“I think that's questionable, but certainly under Pennsylvania law, the definition of what is called a lottery is pretty broad,” he explained.

Castor outlined three major problems with Musk's promise.

  • Enhancing voter registration with financial incentives, both a federal and state issue.
  • Lottery implementation threatens state monopoly on gaming
  • This billionaire's actions are influence elections

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat and former Keystone State attorney general, also expressed concerns about the plan Sunday.

“I think there are real questions about how he's spending money in this election, how he's spending money not just in Pennsylvania, but obviously in the pockets of Pennsylvanians right now. That's very concerning,” he said on NBC's “Meet the Press.”

Mr. Castor pointed out that Mr. Shapiro was careful with his words, saying, “It's because he doesn't have confidence in himself.''

“I hope Mr. Musk reconsiders this kind of effort. It doesn't look good. There's a bad vibe. Maybe we should focus on the problem and not the tricks.” No,” Castor said.
