“I was happy when Title IX was announced,” the former Notre Dame coach wrote, “but now, years later, we can’t even guarantee that women will be able to compete against each other.”

“That’s crazy!”

Title IX was first issued on June 23, 1972. The act prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in schools and other education programs that receive federal funding.

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be denied the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance,” Title IX states.

Transgender athlete complains about lack of sportsmanship from fellow runners after winning girls state title

Recently, the Biden administration announced new Title IX rules focused on protecting LGBTQ+ students and changing how claims of sexual harassment and assault on campuses are adjudicated.

The new rules stopped short of banning transgender athletes from competing alongside women in girls’ sports.

Last week, a federal district court in Kentucky ordered a halt to the Biden administration’s implementation of new Title IX protections after a West Virginia girl and the International Association of Christian Educators filed a lawsuit over a transgender teen competing on a middle school team. The new injunction applies to Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Virginia and West Virginia.
