For United, Manuel Ugarte is back from injury to replace Casemiro, who was “very tired”, according to Amorim, after having his best spell of the season. Christian Eriksen comes in for Joshua Zirkzee as the left-sided No 10, and Mason Mount is back on the bench after a long lay-off.

Tonight’s game is at 7pm, expertly timed to infuriate the travelling fan and not much better for the season-ticket holder with young children. It’s the fourth Van Nistelrooy derby of the season, but the first at the King Power. United won the other three – 5-2, 3-0, 2-1 – so at least Leicester’s defenders have got better at coping with them. On the third occasion, in the FA Cup, Leicester were beaten only by a header from Harry Maguire that was (a) in Fergie time and (b) blatantly offside.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been in the technical area for all four of these games, two on each side. Ruben Amorim – whose first act as United manager was to get rid of Ruud – has only faced Leicester in the cup. In the league, both managers have made their teams worse. Amorim has five wins in 17 PL games, Van Nistelrooy two in 15 with Leicester – after being unbeaten in four games in all competitions, and oozing authority, as United’s stopgap manager.

Entertaining as the United soap opera is, tonight is more about whether Leicester can turn the tide. In their past five league games, it’s been Leicester 0, The Rest 13. They used up far too many goals on 11 January, when they beat QPR 6-2: since then, they haven’t scored at home. Their chances of staying up are 1 per cent according to Opta. The only way it can happen is if they collect 10 more points than Wolves.

Leicester’s next four opponents are Man City, Newcastle, Brighton and Liverpool, so they simply have to win tonight, then beat one of that lot (Newcastle, at a pinch?), hope Wolves get only one point from their next four games (West Ham home, Ipswich away, Spurs home, Man U away), and win the showdown between the two at the King Power on 3 May. That would leave Leicester a mere point adrift with home games against Southampton and Ipswich to come. It may be a faint hope, but it’s the only one they’ve got.

Important Events
14 minutes Another neat set of passes from United to Darott overturning the cross. He is a good team player, but he seems to be forever surprised by his own strength.
12 minutes United have more balls. Fernandez's cross from the right finds Darot, unable to return to Eriksen, waiting for the ball.
11 min Ugarte is trying another punt from distance, but it's not better than the first punt. That was a shame as United were making the back very smoothly from the front.
9 minutes Ugarte wins the ball at the edge of the box and tries out a long shot.
7 minutes United really enters Leicester's box without any threats. And while Aiden Heaven, the precocious centre-back who makes his first PL start, gives him a foul, Leicester can't do much with free kicks.
5 minutes One of the reasons I like to watch these two teams face each other is because they can both wear the right colours. Leicester is clearly blue, white socks, but united in his usual red.
3 minutes chance! For Jamie Vardy, find the yard in the left inner channel. Lindelof is good for reducing space, and Vardy shots get bigger.
2 minutes Darrot's throw twists with his left foot and reaches Hozilund, shooting. That's one shot more than he's had in quite a few games this season.
1 minute We're off! And United have the opportunity to put long throws on the box.
When both teams enter the crowd, Bruno Fernandez makes a very strong statement. “Everyone! I can't score points all the goal! ”
Email! “It's good to see Mason come back on the bench,” says Dean Kinsella. “If he can find his old international form, he may be very important to Kobbie Mainoo. Many short passes have wandered in the middle, especially since Mainoo came out. Mount may be the one who knits it all together.”
Manchester United come to this game with an unfamiliar feel. They can look back at their final performance with great satisfaction.
They weren't perfect against Real Sociedad on Thursday (until 87 minutes, they only led thanks to enthusiastic referees), but ultimately dominated. And the word “electrification” was also used.
Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho both made 20 appearances without scoring, but both got assists in that game, making it feel like their goals are rounding the corner. Garnacho always finds a way to shoot. Højlund isn't, but when he teeed Diogo Dalot for United's fourth, he celebrated as if he had won the Europa League. He might explode well if he finally scores.
United now have the opportunity to continue running, doing what has surpassed them all throughout the season. But it's not exactly out of character that they're stumbling tonight.
And they did it! Despite admitting it in the 95th minute.
Meanwhile, at Wembley, Newcastle has been around seven minutes since winning his first trophy in 70 years. Join John Brewin and see if you can.
The team is perfect
Leicester (3-4-2-1) Hermansen; Coady, Faes, Thomas; Justin, ndii, Smale, Christiansen. Daka, El Cannas; Vardy.
Submarines: Stolarczyk, Okoli, Coulibaly, Winks, Buonanotte, Mavididi, McAther, De Cordova-Reid, Ayew.
Manchester United (3-4-2-1) Onana; de ligt, Lindelof, Heaven; Mazrawi, Ugarte, Fernandez, Darot. Garnacho, Eriksen; Højlund.
Submarines: Harrison, Me, Fredrickson, amass, Casemiro, Collier, Mount, Zirkzee, Obi.
Simply put, Team: Leicester hasn't changed
It's a fight on the back as Rude holds his faith in the narrowly lost XI at Stamford Bridge.
A simple team: Ugarte and Eriksen start
For United, Manuel Ugarte returns from injury and replaces the “very tired” Casemiro after having the best spell of the season. Christian Eriksen came to Joshua Zilky as the no. 10 on the left, and Mason Mount returned to the bench after a long layoff.
preamble
Everyone, welcome to the last Premier League match of the month. If you're an addict, you're going to go to the cold chuchel.
Tonight's game is 7pm and is skillfully timed to infuriate travel fans, not so good for season ticket holders with young children. It's the fourth of the season, Van Nistellouis Derby, but the first is King Power. United scored three other 3-2, 3-0, 2-1. So, at least Leicester's defenders are excellent at dealing with them. The third opportunity, at the FA Cup, Leicester was beaten only by Harry Maguire's header.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy is in the tech field in all four of these games. Reuben Amorim – His first act as United manager was to remove Rude, but he faces Leicester in the cup. In the league, both managers made the team worse. Amorim won five wins in 17 PL games and two wins in 15 Van Nistellouis against Leicester. He is undefeated in four games in all competitions, exuding his authority as United's Stop Gup Manager.
To entertain as United Soap Opera does is about whether Leicester can change the tide tonight. In the past five league games, Leicester was 0 and 13 years left. They ran out of too many goals when they beat QPR 6-2 on January 11th. They have not scored at home since then. According to Opta, their chances of staying are 1%. The only way that happens is if they collect 10 points or more than the wolf.
Leicester's next four opponents are Man City, Newcastle, Brighton and Liverpool. So we have to win tonight and beat one of those lots (Newcastle, in a pinch?). That leaves Leicester with mere point ad-lift in his home game against Southampton and Ipswich. That may be a faint hope, but that's all they have.
