Exciting Overtime Win for the Oilers
The Oilers pulled off a thrilling overtime win against the Panthers on Wednesday night, but the excitement extended beyond just the game in Edmonton.
Celeste Desjardin, who is engaged to Leon Draisaitl, celebrated with a Greek-themed bachelor party while Draisaitl was taking part in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final.
Meanwhile, Lauren McDavid, wife of Oilers captain Conor McDavid, shared their adventures abroad on her Instagram story.
“PSA – Singles aren’t the ideal timing, but we’re back for good stuff!” Lauren posted on Wednesday night. “I’m going to Oilers!!!”
Desjardin also posted a snapshot from their flight that included Mikaila Nurse, the wife of Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.
“We are reaaaaady!” exclaimed the bride on her Instagram story.
Desjardin revealed her engagement back in July 2024, showcasing her custom “Mrs.” while sharing a selfie with Mikaila alongside 29-year-old Draisaitl.
Fans are hopeful the Oilers can maintain their momentum; they’ve celebrated three championships since 1990, and last year they fell to Florida in the finals.
Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner reflected on the difference from last year: “Last year, I was looking at it with a Google eye. This year felt completely different. I was here last year, I saw it. It’s time to go back to work and do my thing.”
Draisaitl played a crucial role in the game, scoring two goals, including the game-winner during overtime.
“He’s incredibly valuable,” McDavid stated. “He’s doing so many good things. You give it a name and he does it.”
As of now, the Oilers hold a 1-0 lead in the series against Florida.
Since being selected third overall in 2014, Draisaitl has scored nine goals this playoff season and is also a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy, which honors the league’s most valuable players.
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday night, after which the series will shift to Florida for games 3 and 4 starting on Monday.
