Leonie Fiebich’s Standout Performance
Liberty’s Leonie Fiebich has grown weary of the constant reminders about needing to be more involved in the game since returning from Eurobasket.
During Tuesday’s win against the Aces, she took matters into her own hands and focused on making her shots, a strategy that truly paid off.
Fiebich ended the game with a season-high of 15 points, hitting all her attempts—six from the field and six from three-point range—leading Liberty to an 87-78 win.
Before this game, she hadn’t attempted more than six shots in any match. In fact, her combined attempts in the first two games post-Eurobasket were just nine.
While Fiebich is undeniably a team player, some say she tends to be too selfless, perhaps to her detriment.
Her presence is vital for creating spacing in the offense. However, where she really shines is on defense, where her energy and focus truly stand out.
Coach Sandy Blondero expressed confidence in Fiebich’s shot selection, stating he needn’t worry about her forcing bad shots or getting cut off. He just encouraged her to stay aggressive.
Fiebich’s shift in mindset was evident to Breanna Stewart, who noted that within the first quarter, she attempted three shots in under three minutes. “It was clear that Leo was determined today. That’s exactly what we need,” Stewart commented. “She can really penetrate the defense and finish.”
Fiebich excelled not just in scoring; she also grabbed multiple rebounds and blocked shots during the game. When asked about her personal highlights from the match, she shrugged it off, saying there wasn’t a specific moment that stood out.
“I genuinely care about our team’s success,” Fiebich stated.
With two starters sidelined, the team needed her to be more assertive on offense, and she definitely answered that call.
Sabrina Ionescu’s New Signature Shoe
In other news, Nike unveiled Sabrina Ionescu’s third signature shoe on Tuesday. The Nike Sabrina 3 is rich with references to her roots and achievements.
The shoe features embroidered designs and a unique woven fabric inspired by Ionescu’s Romanian heritage. The distinct swoosh symbolizes her drive and relentless spirit.
Ionescu expressed disbelief at reaching the milestone of her third signature shoe. “It’s inspiring to see so many young fans wearing my shoes and getting motivated by my game,” she said. “We always focus on the significance of our role in inspiring others through basketball.”
The first two models have become favorites among NBA and WNBA players, and she hopes this new release captures similar popularity. “That’s the aim,” she remarked.
