Less pressure on Aaron Rodgers could lead to success with the Steelers, says former NFL player.

Aaron Rodgers recently concluded the NFL offseason by signing a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This move sparked a mixed response among fans and analysts. The Steelers have gone through five different quarterbacks since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement in 2021. It’s worth noting that when Rodgers joined the New York Jets in 2023, he didn’t seem to be performing at his MVP level.

One former general manager expressed doubts about Rodgers, claiming he might be “unrelated” by Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Super Bowl champion Joe Theismann took a more favorable stance when discussing Rodgers before the American Century Championship Golf Tournament next month. He pointed out Rodgers’s potential for success, emphasizing his passing skills. Importantly, he noted that Rodgers won’t have to juggle the responsibilities of being a general manager along with being the quarterback.

Theismann remarked, “Aaron has been under significant pressure up until recently. He understands the system well and had strong opinions on coordinating roles.” He added that the Steelers’ environment, led by Mike Tomlin, is one of quality coaching.

“Being part of the football team involves earning respect through hard work and dedication,” Theismann noted. “Aaron is saying all the right things now, so I believe he will do well.” Last season, Rodgers put up decent numbers—3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions—despite coming off an Achilles injury.

The Jets faced significant challenges last year; after starting 2-1, they lost five consecutive games, four of which were decided by a single score.

Pittsburgh finished the previous season with a playoff record of 10-7, raising curiosity about how they will perform with Rodgers as quarterback.
