David Letterman Critiques ABC’s Response to Kimmel
David Letterman, the former late-night host, has voiced his concerns regarding ABC’s handling of the current presidential administration under Trump, particularly in relation to comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show.
He expressed, “And my best friend Jimmy Kimmel. I’m not feeling great about this because I see how it unfolds. Is it appropriate? It’s managed media.”
In light of recent events, ABC has put Kimmel’s show “indefinitely” on hold following his comments about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Last Monday, Kimmel mentioned that the U.S. has “hit some new lows over the weekend.” He later accused conservative Republicans of attempting to “gain political traction” from Kirk’s murder in Utah the previous Wednesday.
The suspension came after Nexstar Media Group indicated that Kimmel’s remarks would cause “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to be pre-empted that Wednesday evening. Nexstar owns various media outlets, including The Hill and NewsNation.
President Trump lauded ABC’s decision, while Democrats criticized it. Some have even called for the resignation of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Brendan Kerr, alleging “corrupted abuse of power.”
Letterman commented on the situation, saying, “Well, this is miserable, authoritarian—perhaps in the realm of dictatorial regimes, eventually, everyone will be affected. But this is personal for me. For 30 years, I made a living doing this.”
He added, “They always supported Colbert. It was disrespectful. He deserved recognition, having been in the Hall of Fame nine times! You don’t have to worry about anything, Larry. It’s all over! It’s fine. Good night.”
