NFL cornerback Levi Wallace retires at age 31
Levi Wallace, at 31 years old, is ending his NFL career after eight years in the league. He started his journey as an undrafted free agent from Alabama.
Wallace last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars but spent the previous season on injured reserve without appearing in any games. His most recent game was with the Denver Broncos in 2024.
He took to Instagram to announce his retirement, sharing a post that read, “Walk-on. Undrafted. Eight years. Retired.”
Interestingly, Wallace’s story is quite compelling. Coming from Alabama, he clearly embodies the underdog spirit. He was part of Nick Saban’s team, not as a star initially but rather a walk-on who earned his place. After two years on the scout team, he finally saw action and gained a scholarship for the 2016 season. In 2017, he contributed significantly to the Crimson Tide’s national championship run, recording notable stats including 48 tackles and three interceptions.
Despite not being drafted, he was picked up by the Buffalo Bills, where he quickly made his mark, starting seven games in his rookie season. Once given a chance, he held onto his starting position throughout his four years there, racking up 219 tackles and six interceptions.
After his time in Buffalo, Wallace moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting 18 of 31 games across two seasons. Even though he wasn’t a regular starter, he continued to showcase his defensive skills with six interceptions. In his final season with the Broncos, he started two of thirteen games and notched 28 tackles.
Overall, Wallace’s career totals culminate in 333 tackles, 56 pass deflections, and 12 interceptions across 96 games played.
