Lewis Hamilton’s Contradictory Comments on Wealth
In a 2023 interview with Jay Shetty, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton made remarks about wealth that haven’t aged particularly well. He expressed deep concern over the disparity between the rich and the poor, even asserting that no one should be a billionaire. At the time, his comments seemed quite noble—but that was before he began dating Kim Kardashian, whose net worth is projected to reach about $1.9 billion by 2026.
Now it seems like he’s adjusted his views, perhaps? While he once said, “You shouldn’t be allowed to have billions,” his current relationship raises questions about his earlier stance.
Lewis Hamilton says billionaires shouldn’t exist:
“You shouldn’t be allowed to have billions. There should be a limit to how much you can have.”
He has an estimated net worth of $550 million.

Hamilton’s original remarks felt earnest, but his relationship with Kardashian—who often flaunts her wealth—seems to signal a shift. It’s quite a leap for someone who previously expressed discontent with the ultra-wealthy.
He recalled in the interview, “One of the things that I struggle with every day… is the disparity between the wealthy and the poor,” highlighting his awareness of societal issues.

He pointed out the stark realities in Los Angeles, noting, “When you’re driving in LA, there are still so many people living on the streets. You shouldn’t be able to have billions.”
He further elaborated, “There should be a limit to how much you can have because I think there’s enough to go around for everyone.”
In other parts of the discussion, Hamilton stated his goal is to “create more equality, and equal access for everyone.” He reminisced about meeting less fortunate children and recognized the luck so many of us have.
Interestingly, he has the financial means to contribute to change himself, without having to rely on his billionaire girlfriend. Forbes even lists him among the top 10 highest-paid athletes, estimating his worth at about $100 million.
Social media has certainly not held back, with many criticizing him for seemingly softening his stance on wealth. Despite the backlash, he has yet to make any public comments in response to the criticism.
