Lewis Hamilton remembers his cherished dog before Mexico's Day of the Dead

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 23

Lewis Hamilton shared his feelings on Thursday about the recent passing of his cherished bulldog, Roscoe. He spoke about how this loss has deepened his connection with fans globally, especially as the Day of the Dead approaches in Mexico.

At the Mexican Grand Prix, attendees and organizers honored Roscoe by placing a statue of him on an altar for the celebration on November 2nd.

The seven-time world champion remarked, “Through this time of sadness, I felt like I had an even deeper connection with people.” He mentioned that since Roscoe’s passing, fans have been sending him drawings of his dog, but he’s finding his house a bit too quiet now.

When I brought up a Mexican legend about dogs helping souls cross rivers, Hamilton smiled and joked, “Well, he would ask me to carry him river; probably because he didn’t like water.”

He reflected on how the support from fans has been particularly touching amidst current global challenges, stating, “For me, it was really heartening to see this at a time when everything feels so dark in the world and there’s so much division.” He expressed concern over a lack of empathy among those in power in various countries.

Hamilton also discussed how his passion for animals inspired his choice to adopt a plant-based diet, despite some skepticism from his family about bringing a dog into his life due to his busy travel schedule.

“You learn a lot about empathy. You feel love like you don’t get anywhere else, really. They bring you so much happiness; they’re just the most joyful beings in the world,” he said.

Even after his passing, Hamilton keeps Roscoe’s spirit alive at home. “I still have his bed and toys everywhere, so he’s still part of the furniture,” he shared.
