‘LGBTQ is shoved down our throat’: 16-year-old athlete says girls are silenced about not wanting boys in their locker room

Students at a California high school say female players were stabbed in the back by an administrator after they expressed concerns about male players being in the locker room.

At a Riverside Unified School District board meeting in California, an anonymous 16-year-old girl spoke out about a male athlete competing on the women's cross country team.

“I run on the cross country team, so I'm always affected by these acts that happened this season,” the girl began. “I feel like the whole LGBTQ thing has been shoved down our throats and shoved in our faces, so much so that women, and my entire team, feel pretty much silenced from talking about it.” I have been there.”

Martin Luther King High School and the school district were recently sued by two female athletes for violating Title IX, as well as their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.

The girls said school officials told them that wearing a shirt with “Save Women's Sports” on the front was the same as wearing a swastika.

After saying he found it “nearly impossible” for girls to speak out on the issue, a 16-year-old told the school district that the school's athletic director completely betrayed the students who had the courage to speak out. spoke.

“At a time when no one else felt comfortable speaking up, I personally went to talk to the athletic director. …The athletic director turned around and gave a teammate a shirt that said 'Save Girls' Sports.' When you say you're comparing them, you say, “Manji, that's no good.''

The student continued, “They feel silenced. Someone stabbed me completely in the back,” he said. We were told that they could support us and help us get through this. ”

The two girls named in the lawsuit, whose first names are Caitlin and Taylor, were protesting a male athlete who hit one of the girls on the cross country team.

“We have a transgender student on our team. I worked hard and attended every practice, so why is this student only attending a few practices and I'm being expelled?” ” Taylor asked.

The girls claimed competition officials told them to remove or cover their shirts, creating a “hostile” environment. The athletic director was also accused of saying that allowing a transgender student to wear the shirt was like putting a swastika on a Jewish student.

During the school board meeting, young athletes said they felt like the school and district were “choosing to support one person instead of the whole team and the whole school.”

“It's not okay,” she repeated.

She went on to say that Caitlin and Taylor are two of the kindest people she's ever met, and that the girls have all been in dangerous environments.

She added that it was not safe to “see men” in school locker rooms or bathrooms.
